Why I started Bearing.

M
ost mid-market companies live in the gap between “off-the-shelf is fine” and “build it ourselves.” They’ve outgrown the first option. They’re nowhere near the
headcount for the second.
What they have instead is a stack of disconnected tools, a team doing data entry by hand, and a leadership group flying blind because the dashboards everyone promised never actually got built.
I started Bearing in 2022 because that gap deserved a serious studio. We’re staffed by A players I’ve hand-picked, and we deliver code you own at the end of it. Not a multi-month sales process. Not a body-shop. Just the team you bring in when getting it wrong is more expensive than getting it right.

The story

Why we exist.

Sam started Bearing in 2022 after seeing too many businesses paying enterprise prices for software that needed an in-house engineering team to actually use.
Most mid-market companies live in the gap between “off-the- shelf is fine” and “build it ourselves.” They’ve outgrown the first option. They’re nowhere near the headcount or appetite for the second.
What they usually have instead is a stack of disconnected tools, a team doing data entry by hand, and a leadership group flying blind because the dashboards everyone promised never actually got built.
That’s where we come in. We bring a team who’ve shipped this work many times — integrations, internal tools, dashboards — and we ship it for you. Then we hand it over properly so your team owns it.
how we think

Four principles we don’t bend on.

How we work is more rigid than what we work on. If these match how you’d want a software partner to operate, we’ll get on.

Only A players

We’re a team who’ve shipped projects like yours many times over. We don’t have juniors learning on your dime, and we aren’t here to run up the hours with a body-shop billing model.

Clear scope, no surprises

What gets built and what it costs is agreed before anyone writes a line of code. Estimates don’t grow. Invoices match the SOW.

You own what we build

Code lives in your repo. We document the system as we build it. Your team can maintain and extend everything we ship.
3

We stay because you want us to

Most clients keep us on after the initial build. Not because they’re locked in — because the system keeps evolving and we keep being useful.
